This is by all means a what should i buy thread, but since the Eclat Blind Freecoaster has been dropped, i am now in the market for a new Freecoaster for my Flatland Bike. I know there are a lot of Freecoaster Riders out there & when this forum starts to pick up i think there should definitely be a thread like this one i am creating to talk all things Freecoaster!
From what i have gathered on Internet explorations, these Companies are Definitely bringing out Freecoasters...
Salt Plus (Wethepeople) will be offering a "Switchable" Freecoaster Hub, which i am told is basically an Ezra in an updated shell with Non & Drive Side Guards
Cult are bringing out a Freecoaster that uses the KHE Ball Spring Clutch system but basically has the bearings from a Primo Mix Cassette Hub, which hopefully will solve the Bearing issues KHE are Known for.
Primo will soon be dropping the "Freemix" Hub, which knowing their connections with Cult i am wondering if it will have a similar Bearing arrangement?
Demolition, I am told this is using Ezra Internals also.. The Hub Shell looks far bigger than any Ezra clone i have seen which leads me to wonder, whats going on inside?!
Dartmoor, Kinda a not well known Company from Europe, they are a MTB company that has branched out into BMX & will be offering a Freecoaster! Supposedly using Ezra Internals with a Non & DSG.
The next Freecoaster that has been brought to my attention is Profile.. I know they haven't been known for the greatest quality with their Cassette Hubs, some have been superb & have been running smooth for decades in some cases! & others wobble & ghost pedal straight out of the box! & Profile instead of replacing them offer purchasers shims to "Solve" the problem, However, they do have a LOT of money & experiance to put into this project & they do strive to offer the highest quality Hubs in BMX. This Freecoaster could potentially be something extremely special & bring something new to the Freecoaster game, a proper real & true FEMALE Axle! Not a She-Male (14mm Male cut off & threaded for 3/8ths Bolts) They offer their race axle on the Cassettes so why cant they adapt it for their Freecoaster Hub? I personally have been emailing Profile trying to push them into offering a 14mm Female version.. The 3/8ths Race Axle has a 17mm Inner Axle which is perfectly big enough to thread for 14mm Bolts. Pretty much every 14mm Female Cassette Hub on the market has a 17mm Inner Axle. Hopefully we shall see this in the not too distant future!
Possibly Freecoasters coming?? Before i start going into what companies could be offering them. I have heard that Cinema Wheel co may have one in the works..
I will not name names but i have read on the Internet that there will be a huge surprise at Interbike. A Freecoaster from a company that everyone will "jump on" will be on display! Which lead me to think, who could it possibly be? These are my thoughts & feel free to add your own.
Odyssey/Flatware - I know their sister company G-Sport have a Freecoaster "in the works" but it is a LONG time away, Everyone is getting in on the Freecoaster game this year & Odyssey being one of the biggest Companies in BMX would be pretty crazy not to join in! However, as far as i am aware there are only 3 Clutch systems on the Market right now... KHE, Nankai & Ezra. Knowing Odyssey who very much like to do their own thing i am unsure they would use someone elses design & just slap their name on it. However (again lol) I have been proven wrong at Interbike before.
The Shadow Conspiracy - They do have quite the following in BMX so if they were to put out a Freecoaster i can definitely see a huge amount of riders "Jumping on" on it! They have messed around with Freecoaster before & at Interbike many years ago even had a Freecoaster on show. I know they have a couple of Riders running them & Seth Kimbrough has been riding a Freecoaster for a number of years now & i do believe he has been on The Shadow Conspiracy since the start. Seth signature Coaster? We'll have to wait & see!
Tree Bicycle co - What a Freecoaster that could be! I have emailed Tree myself a couple of times about the possibility of a Freecoaster & i know one of their reps has been moaning at Sam the owner to at least prototype one! Well Tree are in the Flatland Game, they offer Sprockets & Pegs, Also Pat who owns Flatland Fuel has also been gauging interest in a 38mm Collet Stem! Tree are well respected in the Flatland game aswell as Street/Park/Trails. If they were to offer a Freecoaster i know a lot of people would want it & "Jump on" it! What potentially could we see from them though? a KHE clone with better bearings? A Proper, True 14mm Female Axle?! & this next option would definitely blow a few minds! Could wee see a Tree Freecoaster with a Straight Pull Hub Shell like their current Hubs?!
One more from me then its totally up to you guys to say your piece & add to the list of possibilities!
S&M! I know their sister/sub company Revenge is going to offer a Freecoaster, but tbh it isn't anything all that special. KHE Clone with a She-Male Axle. However, S&M have messed around making their own Hubs in the past. When they released the WTF Frame/Fork set with the Enclosed Drop Outs, they made their own Cassette Hub. Well could we see S&M beat Profile to the punch & offer the first American Made Real, True Female Axle'd Freecoaster Hub?
Only Time will tell, Roll on Interbike!
