I wanted to do something a little different, a Flatland Frame review! As an Admin of this site i am determined to make this site about every style of BMX & make everyone feel welcome to join up & post. Including Flatlanders. This is my Review of the Sick Child Instrumental, the 19.25" Version to be exact...
When i purchased this Frame i had to pre-order it because the 19.25" was a limited number deal. It's a long story, but times were tough & these Frames are very much sort after so i sold it. I emailed Ed the owner of Sick Child & inquired about getting another one when the next batch was made. Well he told me there would be no more & if he were me i'd try to get it back as only TEN were made in this size! Well the man i sold it to is a very nice fellow & when he decided it wasn't for him i bought it back from him in a heart beat! He had used her well & it was when i got her back that i decided it was time to ride her! I built her up & i enjoyed a good year of riding! I cant actually find any pictures of the Bike built up which is a shame!
This Frames geometry is about as perfect for Flatland as it gets in my eyes!
The 74 Degree Head Tube Angle coupled with Zero Offset Forks is just spot on.
19.25" Top Tube Length feels great for me, i know this is a LOT smaller than the majority of Street Frames you guys are riding but for Flatland 19.25" to 19.5" couldn't get any better!
The 71 Degree Seat Tube Angle could do with being a bit steeper, i do prefer my Seat to be pushed further towards my Bars, but obviously ONE smaller feature does not ruin a near perfect Frame.
Stand Over Height is a smidge over 6" which for me was great for whipping tricks, stepping over the Frame etc.
The Bottom Bracket Height is actually a bit of a mystery with these Frames, it was never listed one the spec sheet (Much like the Stand Over Height actually) I have measured it at close to 11.8", There are a few Flatland Frames on the market with 13" + B.B Heights are just insanity to me! I know the whole idea of them is to put you higher & further over the Front End allowing for easier, Nose Manual Tricks, but i just cannot get me head around that idea! 11.8" is pretty much spot on! You get the feeling of being above the Bike ready to pop into Nose Manual Tricks but you don't feel like you're floating in the air!!
12.75" Slammed Chain Stays, well i know there are a few Street Frames encroaching on this area now, but it really does give you great pop into Back Wheel Tricks & you really do feel in control yet, it's really on the edge of balance which for me adds to the fun of a Flatland Frame!
In short, this is one of the Best Frames i have ever owned! Not just one of the Best Flatland Frames, one of the Best Frames period! I let her go once & now i have her back she will NEVER, EVER leave me again!
Here's some more detailed shots that really make a Sick Child special!
